Bad Advice For Good Times

News and fodder behind the films of Joseph Nanni.

Awesomeness On The Way

Black Goat production design is crawling along and we have several talented individuals working away including Anthony del Rizzo, Velocity Branding from Winnipeg, and THE Dave Carson.  You’ve probably seen Dave’s Shub illustration making its way around the web – this is NOT the design for the creature in Black Goat; Dave did this before we invited him on board so expect to see something new.  In the meantime we are slowly posting character design on our Facebook page HERE so drop by and check ‘em out.

Black Goat Won’t Be First

Despite all the hype around our planned period piece it won’t be the first feature from Bad Advice For Good Times.  Pre-production has begun on Black Seas, a reference from H.P. Lovecraft’s The Call of Cthulhu, and the feature is scheduled to shoot in March.  The plot revolves around a man known only as J who wakes up in an escape shuttle with no recollection of who he is or how he got there.  His only clues come from a virtual HR representative who helps J rebuild his fragile psyche.  Things take a turn for the worse when an alien presence appears aboard the craft and begins to contradict everything J believes about himself and the situation.

Fans of Elder Sign and The Necronomicon will appreciate the darkly comical script, while HPL fans will love the cosmic horror, both felt and realized.

Black Goat Besieged By Indonesian Pirates

When our new short film popped up a few weeks back its enigmatic content was the source of much speculation.  Some people thought it was a teaser for a feature, some thought it was a new Slipknot video (we weren’t at all opposed to this interpretation), and some thought it was a scene from an existing film.  We were getting hundreds of hits a day so we really didn’t care what people thought.  And then some bullshit happened.  Eager to dupe the public someone started sharing a work print of a feature length film under the name Black Goat.  Not only that, they used our poster for their film.  On top of that they used images of Adam Wilson as screen grabs from their film.  And the piste de résistance . . . they used our short as the trailer for their film, and our synopsis too.  We can’t imagine what people were thinking when they pressed play on the illegal download.  The “work” is in no way related to what we are doing.  The film that is out there trading under our banner is, well, let’s just say, not really our thing and now this completely random piece of work is dragging us down on IMDB and discussion boards.  We are not amused.  So if you have a second please  head over to our IMDB page HERE and give us a vote or help set things straight on the boards.  Thanks.

Guillermo Del Toro To Pass Judgement On Black Goat

As is if making insider films in a sub, sub genre of horror and science fiction, loosely based on the writings of a relatively unknown misanthropic pulp writer from the 20′s/30′s wasn’t hard enough, now we find out that a giant of the horror genre, and arguably one of the best filmmakers of the 21st century, will be judging said films.  Guillermo Del Toro will be judging the short films at this years’ HP Lovecraft Film Festival in Los Angeles, Friday, September 16 and Saturday, September 17, at the Warner Grand in San Pedro.  This will also be the world festival premiere of Black Goat, so you may want to see it here before all the nerds start asking, “why does a coureur de bois have a viking axe?”*

*  We’ll be happy to explain why when some gives us a bucket of money to make the feature.
