Bad Advice For Good Times

News and fodder behind the films of Joseph Nanni.

Black Goat Won’t Be First

Despite all the hype around our planned period piece it won’t be the first feature from Bad Advice For Good Times.  Pre-production has begun on Black Seas, a reference from H.P. Lovecraft’s The Call of Cthulhu, and the feature is scheduled to shoot in March.  The plot revolves around a man known only as J who wakes up in an escape shuttle with no recollection of who he is or how he got there.  His only clues come from a virtual HR representative who helps J rebuild his fragile psyche.  Things take a turn for the worse when an alien presence appears aboard the craft and begins to contradict everything J believes about himself and the situation.

Fans of Elder Sign and The Necronomicon will appreciate the darkly comical script, while HPL fans will love the cosmic horror, both felt and realized.

Guillermo Del Toro To Pass Judgement On Black Goat

As is if making insider films in a sub, sub genre of horror and science fiction, loosely based on the writings of a relatively unknown misanthropic pulp writer from the 20′s/30′s wasn’t hard enough, now we find out that a giant of the horror genre, and arguably one of the best filmmakers of the 21st century, will be judging said films.  Guillermo Del Toro will be judging the short films at this years’ HP Lovecraft Film Festival in Los Angeles, Friday, September 16 and Saturday, September 17, at the Warner Grand in San Pedro.  This will also be the world festival premiere of Black Goat, so you may want to see it here before all the nerds start asking, “why does a coureur de bois have a viking axe?”*

*  We’ll be happy to explain why when some gives us a bucket of money to make the feature.

Be Cool, Black Goat is Coming

The hotly anticipated new chiller from Bad Advice for Good Times and Joseph Nanni was due out five days ago.  But after several viewings we decided it needed to be 10% awesomer.  The film we be available to our YouTube channel subscribers first and then begin a festival run in early September – it was shot in 2K, 2:35 so you will want to see this on the big screen.  In the meantime, please enjoy our other films or read a book – may we recommend The Great God Pan by Arthur Machen.

The LNN Interview

NanniThe good people at the Lovecraft News Network interviewed me HERE! All I can say is of all the news networks out there, LNN is the most fair and balanced. What is the LNN, you ask? Well they are this:

What is the LNN?

  • Do you have a preternatural interest in cephalopods?
  • Do you ever lay awake at night dreaming of ways to introduce the word “cyclopean” into everyday speech?
  • Have you ever looked up 47° 9′ 0″ S, 126° 43′ 0″ W on Google Maps?
  • Do you know what the Cup of the Ptolemies was carven out of?
  • Do you know that the most merciful thing in the world is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents?
If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then you are probably just like us here at theLovecraft News Network. Forget earthly politics, celebrities, and hope. This is your source for news that really matters. Enjoy!

Ride The Dragon*Con!

Throw your horns in the air, wave ‘em around like you just don’t care.  Elder Sign has been offically selected to screen during Dragon*Con in the dirty ATLA between September 4 and 7.  If you’re down on a hardcore genre tip or like to trick out your moma’s wig for some cosplay then this con better be in yo’ PDA.

We’re In Fantasia . . . The Film Festival!

Fantasia is the name of a lot of things.  It is also the name of North America’s premire genre festival – their website says so.  And we are very excited to announce that Elder Sign will be having its North American big screen premire at this year’s show.  The work that shows at Fantasia is the very kind of stuff that inspires us to make shorts like Elder Sign, and plus I was born in Montreal.  We’ll get back to you with the dates.
